Humane Society
At the johnstown humane society they house a variety of breeds of dogs.
Each dog is housed there and awaiting adoption. While they wait for someone to come and adopt them they must be maintained and taken care of. The people at the humane society had benefited from our help because we took away from their everyday work load. during our time at the shelter we had cleaned out the animals cages and also had washed their food dishes. The most important task we had was taking out the dogs and interacting with them, and walking them. Most of the dogs were big and very strong. Keeping them under control was a difficult task, but the end result was satisfying one because each and every dog was happy when we finally got them into the yard to play. This experience has helped me because it has given me new methods and ideas when dealing with my own animals. At the shelter i learned how to properly calm down the animals and control them because these people have been working with them for a long time and know just how each of their personalities are. I feel that the people at the shelter learned from me was that even if someone as inexperienced as me can still help a community in many ways. During my time at the shelter i felt very happy to be there because i naturally love dogs and all kinds of animals and to be able to help the ones that do not have a home made me feel like i was doing good by my community. Something that i would tell a person about volunteering in your community is that it is a vital part of the success of a community and it can really make a difference to organizations and people. This experience has showed me that there are many opportunities to volunteer in a community and that even though you may think you do not make a difference you actually can because it is the actions of the citizens that make a community what it.
