We live in the world of constant change. Nowadays, it is difficult to keep up with changes due to the myriad of different technology and information available at our fingertips. Apple, Inc. is a business that relies on cutting edge technology in the field of computers, mobile device, handheld tablets, entertainment media, and application software. Steve Jobs and Stephen “Woz” Wozniak founded Apple (originally Apple Computer, Inc.) in 1976 in Cupertino, California with the goal of revolutionizing the way that computers were used worldwide. Steve Job’s dream was that a personal computer (PC) would be in every household in the near future and could be used to simplify many tasks such as word processing, calculations, and even entertainment. Today this dream has become a reality and the average US citizen owns a home PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone or a combination of all of these devices and uses them on a daily basis.
Apple, Inc. has learned it must adapt to compete with many different companies and products in order to maintain its position as a leader in the computer and technology industry. Recent changes in market competition and government policies have affected Apple, Inc. and many other industries. Our goal is to evaluate the changes in the business environment that and discover what effect it may have on Apple’s business model. We will be discussing the possible effects of new companies entering the market, mergers, globalization, pricing and the sustainability of profits, current or expected government policies, regulations, and global competition. In addition, we will also reflect on how these subjects specifically affect the supply, demand, and profit margins within the computer technology industry.
