Conflict and Change

Managing Conflict and Change are difficult situations and circumstances to understand in these days. These subjects are mainly thrown out the window when they are approached any given day no matter who is involved. Conflict is common among us humans because of how we all have different motives and passions and desires for what we want to do. In the book the Dynamics of Conflict Resolution Bernard Mayer brings us to an understanding about how to deal with conflict, how to handle conflict and what tools to use to avoid negative solutions to Conflict.
I would like to focus on a couple of chapters out of Bernard Mayers book that I think will summarize the main idea of this book. In chapter 2 he explains howmost conflice has started and it is because of people having their own values and beliefs and how they are the main reason why conflict starts in any type of group organization or family. He also asks is conflict acceptable. And to me until it was revealed, conflict was something that I always viewed as being wrong, always being something that meant things were never going get better. If I am on a team and most people think I am wrong all the time then the conflict will most likely destroy the relationship between me and that person.
More on the roles of Conflict is mostly a battle over power. Whoever has the power is the one who is attacked or the one attacking but it is more over power. Not as in who has power because all hold power in conflict it is just as Bernard says by the conflict process the power that the person has will be either diminished or enhanced. So it is not all authoritative. Not all conflict has to do with someone in leadership, just bad motives and poor communication. Mayer explains the central truth of this about what truly causes conflict. People usually engage in conflict because they have needs that need to be met.
