Conflict Resolution
The role of a manager is extremely important for the successful direction and redirection of staff as individuals and groups. The conflict scenario allowed for exploration of ways to resolve conflict within a small workgroup. Communication is the key to every successful relationship, whether it is business or personal. The scenario requires the development of a solution for the group’s stagnation on the current project. An otherwise cohesive group has hit a roadblock in completing the task successfully. There are several ways to come to an amicable and successful solution and each of those ways are rooted in strong, open, and honest communication.
Communication Is the Key
As the manager, it is important to communicate with each individual about the direction and focus of the project. Meeting with the team members individually could consist of two different approaches. The first entails the manager sitting down with each team member, pretending to be oblivious to the conflict, and requesting to see what they have compiled thus far. In some aspects, this would be an ideal method for helping to facilitate the team’s communication and move the project toward completion. The second option for the meeting would be to directly address the conflict and attempt to figure out the options to proceed with the project. By addressing the conflict head on, the team members will be forced to admit that the conflict exists and analyze their role in its resolution. The team members would likely be able to see the mistakes that have been made and address them to reach a solution
