Sources A and B are similar to a large extend. Both sources are similar in their purpose of influencing the general public that the cause of conflicts is due to the unequal jobs opportunity. Source A is a view by a Catholic Civil Rights campaigner, while source B is a view by a Catholic Historian. Both sources represent the Catholics’ view of this issue and both think that the unequal jobs opportunity for the Catholics is causing the conflict between the Protestants and the Catholics in the Northern Ireland. The evident from source A is “ there were two schools, one Catholic and one Protestant. Both were good schools, but the difference was that everyone knew that we would not get the good jobs once our education was finished.” The evident from source B is “ You learned very quickly from the other children at school that we Catholics couldn’t get jobs in a whole range of occupations” This goes to show that the Catholics had little job opportunity, even with high education, they could only work in lousy farms, as better jobs were reserved for the Protestants. Thus, this led to low quality of living of the Catholics, as they could not earn much by working in lousy jobs. Therefore by influencing the general public, both sources hope that the government could re-look into their job policies and hence, improve the life of the Catholics. However, sources A and B are different in their content. Source A shows us that there were no discrimination against Catholics in some occupation but source B shows us that there are discrimination against Catholics in all occupations. The evident from source A is “ those professionals could mix together. It was a class thing. They could meet at the golf club ad there was no discrimination.” This shows that there were some jobs that allow Catholics to join and both the Protestants and the Catholics could work together to bring out the best for the company.
