Conservatives Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. They believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems. {text:bookmark-start} {text:bookmark-end} The conservative belief on the death penalty is that it is a punishment that fits the crime. It is neither ‘cruel' nor ‘unusual'. Executing a murderer is the appropriate punishment for taking an innocent life. Americans have to pay tax money to keep these criminals fed and clothed. Billions of dollars in taxes every year go to prisons. When one grants themselves the “right” to take another’s life, is it really unjust to treat them with the same attitude? Conservatives believe strongly in the use of school vouchers. School vouchers will give all parents the right to choose good schools for their children, not just those who can afford private schools. Parents would finally be able to decide how and where to educate their child. With vouchers, competition amongst schools will arise, ultimately having better teachers and overall better education. Not only could this benefit one child, but with the young generation being our future, it could inspire more hope for the future. Everyone desires clean water, clean air and a clean planet. However, extreme environmental policies destroy jobs and damage the economy. Conservatives are against much government spending on the environment, but would like to do what we can to help the environment. As far as global warming goes, science proves that changes in global temperatures are natural over long periods of time. So far, science has not shown that humans can affect permanent change to the earth's temperature. Free healthcare provided by the government means that everyone will get the same healthcare. The...
