Repeal of the Second Amendment
The United States is considered as the oldest continuous democracy in the world, and it practices the federal system that the power is shared between the Central government and the States government (Overview Of The U.S. Political System, n.d.). The United States Constitution, established the federal government of the United States and protected the certain basic rights of the people, consists of seven articles and twenty-seven amendments. This constitution is created to give people a perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessing of Liberty to the Americans and their Posterity (The Bill of Rights & All Amendments, n.d.). It is also the supreme law which all of the American people have to respect and follow. However, there is a hot debate about this constitution especially on the second amendment “the right of people to keep and bear Arms”. Some people argue that the government had better remove this bearing arms amendment from the constitution while other people object this proposal. From my perspective, the government should repeal this second amendment from the constitution due to three main reasons below.
First of all, the second amendment of bearing arms should be repealed because of the danger of the arms. Arms is different from other types of weapons such as knife, axe or arrow. It is a destructive weapon which can take up to five people’s life in seconds. Because of this amendment, many mass shootings have happened in recent years when people can legally buy a gun. Oregon mass shooting is recently a horrible example when the gunman had opened fire at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College and killed 10 people.
