How can two people even being so different have the same purpose working for a country? All countries have leaders who have influenced society and changed the world. In this vein Colombians have been giants of agriculture, fishing and have influenced economies throughout the world. The history of Colombia have examples of leaders who even being different fought wars, made peace and served as powerful politicians. President Alvaro Uribe Velez and General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla are leaders who even having differences have some similarities that help them to be success in their purpose governing Colombia.
There are many differences between President Alvaro Uribe Velez and President Gustavo Rojas Pinilla. President Alvaro Uribe Velez was born in Medellin-Colombia on July 4th, 1952. He was son of Alberto Uribe and Laura Velez. Alvaro Uribe Velez has one brother named Santiago Uribe, and two sisters Maria Isabel Uribe and Maria Teresa Uribe. He also had another brother Jaime Alberto Uribe, but he died. President Alvaro Uribe has been married to Lina Moreno, for twenty two years and they have two sons Tomas Uribe and Jeronimo Uribe. Alvaro Uribe Velez studied law at the University of Antioquia. In 1993, he finished a post graduated certificate in administration and management at the Harvard University, between 1998 and 2000 he studied at St Antony’s college and Oxford University, England. President Alvaro Uribe Velez became important because of a humanitarian agreement with the guerrillas. The guerrillas are members of an irregular, politically motivated, armed force that fights regular forces. He also was important because on July 2, 2008 a covert rescue operation by the Colombian Special Forces disguised as FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia) guerillas resulted in the rescue of Senator and former Presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, the Americans Marc Gonsalves, Thomas Howes, and Keith Stansell and 11 soldiers and police officers.
