Courage requires that one demonstrates strength by acting in spite of justified adversity. Atticus Finch, father of Jem and Scout, kills a rabid dog fearing the change in his children’s attitude towards him. Mrs. Dubose, an old lady who is addicted to morphine is determined to get off her addiction before she dies, regardless of her possible death. In chapters ten and eleven in To Kill a Mockingbird, Mrs. Dubose and Atticus Finch demonstrate different forms of courage despite the fact they both display strength in adversity.

Atticus Finch demonstrates courage in chapter ten by shooting a sick dog in front of his children, consequently facing the change of perspective from his children.
