Mert’s Heart and Soul, located directly downtown Charlotte, NC, was the best restaurant
I have visited. The warm greeting that is received when walking through the entrance, the sweet
aroma of their famous soul roll that meets you at every corner, and the atmosphere full of
employees who seem to love their job, makes the experience of visiting the restaurant even more
pleasant.
When walking through the entrance of the Mert’s Heart and Soul restaurant, it makes you
feel as if you are walking in the home of your grandmother’s kitchen. Feeling the vibes of
southern hospitality in the voices of the greeters is music to my ears. It’s not every day that one
gets to be treated like family in a setting that serves a respectable amount of people on a regular
basis. Just from the open hospitality alone makes you want to eagerly visit the restaurant quite
often. Hanging on the walls were pictures of famous celebrities who were very much aware of
the reason why Mert’s Heart and Soul is known for the restaurant that it is.
The sweet aroma of their famous soul rolls automatically takes your breath away. Filled
with delicious cheeses, rice, black beans, and other tasteful items, makes every bite worthwhile.
My first bite into their soul roll, had taken place at the Tasting of Charlotte festival in the
summer of 2010. From the first bite into the thick, juicy, mouth-watering roll instantly gave off a
satisfaction of what soul food is all about. The aroma alone is quite satisfying to the senses. The
smell of their golden-fried, well-cooked crust, enclosed with all the “love for food” experience of
cooking, putting the meaning of, “It’s so good, makes you want to slap your mama”, to work. No
wonder it is the highest selling food item of the restaurant.
The atmosphere of energetic and happy-go-lucky employees, who seem to love their job,
makes your experience as a guest...
