Since 2003, the Rio and Sao Paulo police in Brazil alone killed over 11,000 people. The question is why? Why do the police in Brazil kill so many people each year? Sure some of the deaths are act of self-defence, but it is very unrealistic to say that all of them are. The fact of the matter is that the police in Brazil use too much force and are too used to taking out their gun for every issue, causing the deaths of many civilians. This is ironic because the police are supposed to protect the people, not fight against them. Due to this major social injustice I advise everyone to boycott traveling to Brazil because your life could be in danger; I also encourage everyone to raise awareness towards this issue to get it well known.

The police in Brazilare too aggressive, they are only supposed to use their gun if they feel that their life is in danger, but this is not always the case. In August 2010, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil a team of police officers cornered and unarmed 14 year old boy, after the team left, one officer stayed behind and after looking around to see if anyone was watching the officer then shot the boy four times at point blank range. The incident was on featured on many Brazilian news stations; luckily the whole thing was captured by a security camera, and miraculously the boy survived after recovering in the hospital for ten days from his bullet wounds. From watching the video you can see that the boy was clearly unarmed and the incident seemed to be over to all the police except for the one. The reason the officer gave was that it was an act of self defence because their was a gun found near the boy, but even if there was a gun found, the boy did not have it armed and therefore he served no threat to the cop, making this scenario an illegitimate act of self-defence and the whole thing could have been easily avoided.
