1) Introduction
The purpose of this essay is to examine how communication varies across cultures and show cultural contrasts between Poland and Sweden.
Our work is dividing into two parts. In first part of this work the main theoretic issues and definitions are presented like: cross cultural communication, communication and culture. When the second part is more practical. It contains experiences and the observations associated with the stay in Sweden are described.
2) Part one- theory
International communication is an issue that everyone sooner or later will have to manage. Thanks to the rapid and continuous expansion of large global businesses, today people, capital, information and technology travel more freely, rapidly and widely than ever. Today managers, shareholders, employees, business partners, and other corporate
stakeholders make decisions and choices that draw upon different cultural background and
perspectives. Therefore nowadays is so valid for having knowledge about other culture and how to behave in the other environment.
First we will deal with the notion of culture. There are many definitions comprehended culture but "most social scientists today view culture as consisting primarily of the symbolic, ideational, and intangible aspects of human societies. The essence of a culture is not its artifacts, tools, or other tangible cultural elements but how the members of the group interpret, use, and perceive them. It is the values, symbols, interpretations, and perspectives that distinguish one people from another in modernized societies; it is not material objects and other tangible aspects of human societies. People within a culture usually interpret the meaning of symbols, artifacts, and behaviors in the same or in similar ways”[1].
