The Southern Region of the United States consist of a couple of states such as Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida and more. These states are known for having a more smokey, spicier flavor to their dishes. Texas is the largest state in the southern region. One of the historic location in Texas is the Alamo. It is located in San Antonio, Texas. The Alamo was built in 1724. It was the home of missionaries and their native converts. The missionaries would farm in great big fields and cropped a lot to survive.
Texas is well known for their delicious barbecue food. The meat is perfectly battered, breaded, and marinated, waiting for to be cooked in a steaming grill. In states such as Louisiana, are more known for their crawfish and fried catfish. After the civil war, many farms and fields were destroy. This had an impact on their crops and food. That’s when “soul food” became more popular because it was inexpensive.
In New Orleans, Louisiana, there’s a festival that occurs every year. Mardi Gras is a huge celebration during the winter season. It usually begins in January and ends in February. Many people travel to New Orleans to join the celebrations. Parades, parties, and of course delicious food is located everywhere.
In the future, I definitely want to travel to the south. I want to try their different dishes. It would be a great experience to try foods from where the originated from such as fried catfish. I definitely also want to try the barbecue food.
