Today, in our country, there is so much of a wide variety of popular culture, fads, trends, etc. that make up a big percentage of the people. Much of the younger generation, especially, are in to all kinds of popular fashions and popular culture. I want to spend a little bit of time talking about what it would be like for a person or family from another culture or society to come to the United States. The question that I would like to share some views on is would they be able to maintain their culture or would they find themselves adapting to the culture of the United States and doing things that are common to us? The first view point I want to talk about will try to mention some ways and/or methods that that a foreigner would do to maintain their native culture. I believe that there are certain classes of people that are steadfast on maintaining the ways of their ancestors and the culture of that is legendary to their family. One class of people that come to mind is the Indians that have set aside special reserves and colonies to live on and practice their way of living separated from their surroundings. These colonies are small because of the current population of their class but I do believe that their culture is being well maintained with little influence or distraction from what we also know as popular culture. In these colonies, these Indians will still fish and hunt as their means of eating and will still cook their foods over a camp fire instead of going to Wal-Mart and getting microwavable items to eat quickly as though they were in some big hurry to live their lives. These people will also still weave their own clothes from scratch for their families although I do question where they get the material from. These colonies of people have prided in themselves and their way of life and have placed certain high values on not adapting to the new, more modern ways of life that I personally just know as the norm.
