1. Introduction
1. Purpose
The purpose of writing this report is to help expatriate managers in handling the problems that they have experienced in their working environment such as culture shock, language barriers, miscommunication with local staff, staff turnover, empowerment & motivation, and teamwork. This report is written to act as guidance for expatriate managers.
2. Background
Chinese domestic market is known as a low-cost production base, a large numbers of international companies would like to expand their businesses in China. In fact, there is a shortage of trained and experienced managers in China. In addition, there are many foreign inventors who want to keep direct control of their companies by allowing a large number of non-Chinese staff working in their companies. However, the expatriate managers are faced with problems of culture shock, language barriers and miscommunication with the local staff. To overcome the problems that foreign companies faced, they offer the expatriate employees to have a cross-cultural training because cultural diversity can have a direct impact on individual managerial effectiveness.
3. Plan
In this report, we are going to discuss culture shock, language barriers and miscommunication with local staff that expatriate managers face. Before we start writing the report, we are going to do a research through internet to find more information about those three topics. After getting the information that is relevant for our topics, we will start writing the introduction of the report. We will continue writing the body of this report, including some of the case study that we have read. The next thing that we are going to write is the conclusions followed by the recommendation. In the recommendation, we will give a solution to the problem that expatriate managers faced based on our opinion. Last but not least, we are going to include list of references in our report.
