Communism in North Korea
Introduction
North Koreans have suffered under the rule of both the present and previous dictatorship as a result of the communist form of government adopted by the leaders. Those that dared to stand in the face of communism are hauled away en masse into concentration camps and are made to face inhuman torture. This is not the original plan of the founders of communism. Communism can be defined as a form of government that seeks to eliminate “class” in the society. It aims at addressing the issue of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. This is done by taking from the rich in order to meet or satisfy the poor’s needs. By doing this, the capitalist form of government (in which the rich keeps getting richer while the poor keeps getting poorer) is eliminated and the working class citizens are seen as the main movers of the economy. Karl Marx, the father of communism, was once quoted as saying “from each according to his means, to each according to his needs”. This statement summarizes what communism was supposed to be all about. There will be balance in the society and the state or government will be given the power to distribute wealth by taking from the rich and working class according to each person’s means or income and allocating it accordingly to the masses according to each person’s needs.
