Violence in Baghdad, Iraq has escalated to levels unseen since around 2008 when the nation was on the verge of a civil war. Sunni-Shiite conflicts are increasing at an alarming rate. Several Shiite families have been murdered in Sunni-dominated areas, and although most attacks haven’t been spoken for, they are suspected to be the work of Sunni militant forces and of al-Qaida. These killings are occurring amid an exponential increase in violence due to insurgents and ethnic tensions.
