Cyberbullying the Masses

In world with ever-changing technology and innovations are determining our possible futures, it is hard to keep up with every new item, website, and service, which, affects everyone in many different ways. Many positive, and though some negative, we currently strive to iron out the wrinkles in our innovations and cyberbullying is one of those wrinkles. As if the harsh lifestyle of young students today aren’t hard enough, cyberbullying, which is a new form of the prior, is sweeping the nation. In turn, countless suicides and many other unfortunate miss happenings are occurring all over.
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology, such as, but not limited to: cell phones, computers, and tablets, all using communication tools including: social media sites, text messages, chat messages, and other various websites. “About one half of teens have experienced some form of online harassment, according to the Cyberbullying Research Center. Thirty-seven percent of teens admit to using social networking to victimize peers and forty-three percent use cell phones to insult others. The final sixty-four percent say they do things online that they do not want their parents to know about.” (Edgington)
Most likely, a child who is being cyberbullied will show many different and unusual signs of distress including, social withdrawal, sudden fear of technology, and bad behavior. Those doing the bullying vary into two categories “all around bullies” and “pure bullies”. The “all round bullies” are those who not only bully online, but in real life as well. Though, there are the “pure bullies” those that would not bully without the internet and are believed to merely be enabled by social media to be the bullies that they are. Major differences in pure bullies and all around bullies are the lack of dominance and deviance that the all around bully upholds, which is of major significance solely because the pure bully does not have to be tough to bully a...
