The Dixie Chicks are not your common country music girls The Dixie Chicks is a female country trio who the country establishment who has a lot to say about. Things good and bad such as their singing about killing abusive spouses and dressing like an older Brittney Spears, or the fact that they have 25m LP’s since their debut album and won 5 Grammy awards. Lead singer of the group Natalie Maines though sure gave the media something more to talk about when at a concert she was quoted saying “were ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas”, about president Bush in 2003.Of course the media was all over this story and think that the Dixie Chicks went too far and took it over the top with the statement. The statements made by the Dixie Chicks were really not a wrong doing because people are entitled to their own opinions regardless of who is the victim of these words, and because a public apology was issued after the response was made.
First of all the comments made by Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks was not really bad is because people are entitled to their own opinions and other celebrities have made comments prior to the her and afterwards. Take Rapper Kanye West’s comment made in 2005 when he made a public statement saying President Bush doesn’t like black people, after Hurricane Katrina Struck Louisiana and aid wasn’t sent immediately and the majority areas hit were in the black community. Kanye’s remark stirred up lots of media trouble and people including some fans. Mr. West was bad mouthed and criticized for what was said, but despite that he hsas put out albums and his music continues to sell very well. So the Dixie Chicks shouldn’t be ashamed of what they said because much more damage has been done to President Bush besides the little comment she made.
