ESSAY
Staring at the clock, listening to the teacher, waiting for the bell to ring. Tick tock, Tick tock. You see a paper airplane gliding smoothly through the cold air. The chalkboard is full of words, numbers and diagrams. The teacher is too busy teaching a lesson. It was all going well until... “Class, do question 1-50 on pages 46 and 47”. HOMEWORK? Why do teachers enjoy seeing us struggle? In my opinion, homework is like a “bitter pill” to students. Many students and their parents are overwhelmed and frazzled by the amount of homework being piled up by schools, yet researchers say that Canadian students have just the right amount of homework. Teachers are pushing us too hard and expecting too much. Teachers give so much homework; students are starting to crouch while walking because of the tons of weight on their backs carrying reference books for homework. Then when they get home their parents scream at them until their heads pop off only because they have bad posture. Homework is important to reinforce what students learn in school, but too much of it can be a problem. The amount of homework that teachers assign students each and every night is not helpful at all. Coming home from school and having three or four more hours of homework does not allow students to spend much time with friends or family, or get a good night’s sleep. Have you seen the amount of homework that students get each night? Don’t you just want to see that mountain of homework on your desk just “POOF” away? Don’t you think it’s time we abolish homework? We’ve gone through many hardships, teachers should decrease of even abolish homework so students can also enjoy life, decrease the amount of pressure they have in order to develop an interest to attend school.
