What is Depression?
The definition of depression is a state of unhappiness and hopelessness. The feeling of depression is one that has to be endured alone. It is a very personal and private journey. It is like a beast, a beast of burden. Everyone has the beast living within them. He will lay dormant inside of them, waiting for that one moment when they are at the most vulnerable point in their life before he attacks. When that beast rears its heinous face, he will first appear insidious, as if he is not going to stay long, like an uninvited guest. After he has exposed himself, he will become the omnipotent beast that he is known to be. He will enter every facet of a person’s life. He will strive to make them surrender themselves to him, taking the inner core of their happiness and security from them. Like a ravenous tiger attacking its prey, they feel the pierce of its razor sharp teeth ripping at their flesh. Pulling, chewing and tugging, with their heart being its main target. The prey will irrevocably surrender, as they feel the beast find its way into their mind, body, and soul.
When the beast of depression first invades his victims body, he may enter in a quiet, subtle way, the same way the salesman knocking at someone’s door, isn’t selling anything. He is a charlatan of sorts, and a very good one at that. At first the victim may feel as though they have the flu, knowing that they just don’t feel like themselves. Feeling tired, listless, slightly uninterested in what that they generally enjoy doing, and they think this feeling will soon pass. They convince themselves that they are just feeling a little bewildered. The beast will...
