Delta Airlines Is Thrusting Into The Future
The airline industry was created in the early 1900s by providing service for the United States Postal Service. Many would believe that this was the beginning of the federal government having their hands involved in the aviation community. Airplanes were introduced to a minute role to help aid in World War I in combat missions. In the early years flying was limited to people with an elite status. Individuals would lease an aircraft that was readily available to them for the right price. It was not a difficult task to come up with a price per flight due to accuracy of obtaining the information needed to calculate potential revenue and operating cost (Airline Monitor, 2013).
The way the airline industry is structured today became a reality on April 22,1952. The Boeing Company surpassed its competitors by investing $15 million to develop a jet engine to power a commercial airplane (Airline Monitor, 2013). A crop-dusting operation out of Macon, Georgia called the Huff Daland Dusters is the backbone of what is called Delta Air Lines, Incorporation. This company has been proven to be here for the long haul since it’s inception in 1924, and moving the headquarters to Monroe, Louisiana in 1925. Passengers were added to flight that stretched across the southern states, Texas to Mississippi, which included stops in Dallas, Shreveport, Monroe, and Jackson. The company moves its headquarters operations to Atlanta, Georgia in 1941. Delta has accomplished many various missions for the United States of America beginning in with World War II in 1942 to sponsoring the Olympic Winter Games in 2002. The company has grown into a recognizable brand in the international air transportation industry with its acquiring of other major airlines (Delta, 2011).
