The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter
1. The book, The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter, is about Derek Jeter and how he became a New York Yankee and one of the best shortstops to play baseball. I like Derek Jeter because he has always been a positive role model. I love the Yankees, baseball and I’ve always played shortstop, so learning about where Derek Jeter came from is important to me. I would like to learn about Derek Jeter's childhood and what made him become so great. I would also like to know if Derek Jeter played any other sports while growing up.
2. I am learning that I can connect with Derek not only through sports but also through his hard work and dedication. I work hard to excel in sports even when I know that I might not be the best player. Derek had to work hard to play basketball and I also had to do the same thing. The same goes for playing shortstop on the baseball field. Derek has also been interested in running a business and took classes in high school for business; I am also taking business classes in high school.

I also thought about quitting baseball in order to play lacrosse but reading this book helped change that because I wanted to work at getting better at baseball. If I were to play lacrosse I would have to learn a whole new sport and I don’t want to quit baseball anymore.
4. Derek Jeter made the decision to stick with pro baseball instead of going back to college to try and figure out what to do with his life. At the same time Derek made the decision not to pitch in baseball, which I disagree with because he could have been a great pitcher. I would like to go back and tell Derek Jeter that he could have been a...
