Determining Your Perfect Position in an Expanding Company

As the company is expanding, I was given an opportunity of determining the type of leadership position that best suit into. As a valued and veteran employee I’m well aware of the organization mission and goals. At the same time, I’m also well accustomed to the company operation and strategies. However, part of the challenge for me is to determine the role that may best benefit the company and be successful. According to Robbins and Judge, “Leadership defines as the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of a vision or set of goals.” Therefore, I believe that to be successful leader, one must identify certain attributes that could help to influence the group to achieve the company vision. As I took the assessment from the Prentice Hall, I know what my personality is, my leadership style and how I communicate with others. For this paper, I’ll compare and contrast leadership theories in the textbooks. Then, I’ll discuss my assessment results and how they would impact the leadership position that I best suit into. I’ll also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of my leadership style and conclude with how to improve it to best fit my interest.
Over the years, there are many studies about the leadership theories. According to Robbins and Judge, trait theories of leadership differentiate leaders from nonleaders by focusing on personal qualities and characteristics. In which, the common traits of a great leader are one must perceive as charismatic, enthusiastic, and courageous. At most of the advocates argue emotional intelligence (EI) is another trait that may indicate effective leadership. As found in the recent studies, “a person can have outstanding training, a highly analytical mind, a compelling vision, and an endless supply of terrific ideas but still not make a great leader” (Robbins & Judge, p. 403).
