Imagine the world today, our society, people coexisting without statutes and standards. Could you say that your thought would be the same as how we are living now? This thought has been proven already with history. A world without order would be a world of complete chaos. The same is to be said about the entity of medicine. The complexity of medicine requires a system to ensure the betterment of the people. Law, ethics and bioethics are directly related to the regulation and success of health care. Without a hierarchy, morals, and a balance between life and science the world of medicine would collapse.
Law is essential to the order of society. By definition, "Law is a system of rules, usually enforced through a set of institutions. It shapes politics, economics and society in numerous ways and serves as a primary social mediator of relations between people", (Encyclopedia. Wikipedia). Law is an obligation and consists of statutes, bills and legislation. Through the government and constitution numerous medical professions are defined in their scope of practice. There are endless braches of law which help regulate health care and instill quality care, for example, criminal law. Criminal law exists to ensure that there are consequences for wrongful actions. The enforcement of criminal law allows for the safety of society. Criminal law protects patients and Physicians from any actions of harm. Physicians know they must practice with diligence due to the liability of their actions. Inversely, patients are aware that physicians are prohibited from causing bodily injury without consequences, fines or possible revocation. International or Municipal law is a branch of civil law systems that is comprised of public international law and private international law. Private international law institutionalizes Conflict of laws. Conflict of Laws relates to citizens in cases, such as litigations.
