A$AP Rocky vs. Atticus Finch
In the generation of today, there are many types of discriminations in stereotypical statuses causing teenage students with emotional problem and sometimes suicidal thoughts. A young rapper name A$AP Rocky tries to let our young generation know that it is always fine to be different as long as you have full passion for what you do. Which leads to Atticus Finch in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mocking Bird who defends an innocent black person that is wrongly treated in his community only for his racial status. Both A$AP Rocky and Atticus Finch have the similar characteristics of standing up for people who are different in anyways and for believing in justice. This can be seen through a desire to be truthful to one’s self, setting equality, and teaching young generations.
It is never easy to keep your opinion straight when everyone else around you is trying to contradict you. When A$AP Rocky was a teenager, he has been in many gang fights due to people trying to test him and people calling his group of people “gay” for wearing skinny jeans. “Don’t care about what people tell you, do what feels right to you, know who you are and be you.” notes A$AP Rocky. He is a very passionate person when it comes to being different and being his own self. Whereas, Atticus Finch stay strong with his reasons when it comes to defending a black person from racism. When everyone in his town finds out that he actually cares about a black person, they label Atticus as a “nigger-lover” and he gains bad reputation in his town. Atticus states in the book “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb in to his skin and walk around it.” This shows that when someone behaves differently than other people, they have their own reasons and you shouldn’t judge them until you understand them in their point of view.
