Discipline and Management: Different Yet Related
Discipline, management, behavior and misbehavior go hand in hand with similarities and differences, but yet they are related with each other. In classroom management, an educator must have discipline, and management skills to have good behavior or the classroom will have misbehavior that is out of control.
Definition
Discipline is the training of students to ensure proper behavior. It also refers to giving a person certain instructions to follow a particular code of conduct. Management is an effort for the purpose of accomplishing a goal. Behavior refers to the actions caused by the relation of the environment. Behavior can be conscious or subconscious, voluntary and involuntary. The behavior of humans is influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, and/or genetics. Misbehavior is to show actions that are inappropriate in the situation.

Similarities and Differences
Discipline and management are somewhat similar but yet have differences. Discipline is the training of behavior and management can be used in the training of the behavior. A teacher must be able to manage her/his classroom by using discipline and by training the students on the appropriate behavior that should be used in the classroom. A teacher has a goal in their classroom to have a well disciplined class and be able to teach the students the knowledge that is required for that grade level. The differences in the two are that one is to train or advise the student of how to have appropriate behavior, whereas, management is to make sure that the class meets the goals.
