Disrespect in My Opinion

Respect- to hold in esteem or honor, to show regard or consideration for.

As a civilian they say to earn respect, you must give respect. Obviously this is not applied in the military way of life or operation. Respect is something that is automatically given , due to a piece of cloth on your chest. Who am I to argue this, obviously it has worked for over a hundred years, so maybe it’s the way things should be. Disrespect the little guy, because I wear more rank then him. The American way! I make more money then you, so I must be better then you, I know everything and what I say goes. According to the 7 Army values, respect is defined as; “How we consider others, shall reflect upon each of us, both personally and as a professional organization.” Lets break this down, “how we consider others”. Meaning, how I treat you or the next person. “Shall reflect upon each of us,”, meaning will come back to you. In lemans terms, give respect and it will be given in return, take into consideration someone else’s situation. Which is commonly forgotten amongst high ranking personnel in the military. Do to the rank of someone a soldier is suppose to go out of his way to accomplish another’s task. In writing this I definitely do so in self-reflection. I understand the regulations on common courtesy and that by showing common courtesies, that you are showing you respect that persons rank, time served, and the trails and tribulations they had to endure to get where they are.

My personal opinion of respect, I give respect where it is do. If your brilliant in a certain area, and are giving me words or wisdom then those words are embraced. In my mind you are a subject matter expert, and you obviously know more then I know so why not take the advice and possibly better myself in that area. That would be Respecting that man and his ability. In a Noncommissioned Officers I respect a man that Is looking to understand his soldier, and will go out of his way to help that...
