Discrimination is when a person makes an unjust or prejudicial distinction in the treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, sex, or age. In today’s society people are displaying discriminations acts everywhere you go, even in the workplace. There are jobs like the military that work with various people from various places and backgrounds. No matter what the case maybe sex, age, race, and or cultural, no one should have the right to talk down on someone’s background or their way of living their life.
A couple of years ago I was working for an event planning/catering on a military base. I had just been promoted for operation assistant position and my manager thought it would be nice to train me on the hiring process. Now when working on a military posts as a civilian the spouses who apply for any position must be chosen for an interview first. We only had about four applications which were all military spouses therefore we were told to call each person and set the interview up. My manager called the first woman and after he spoke with her he said that she sound a little too old to be applying for the position. Once the day for the interviews came I and another operation assistant set in on the interviews that my manager conducted. He did all of the interviews and after the last lady had left he seemed to be upset. He said he was not happy with the candidates that he had, he said that they all seemed to be a little ditzy and the last one was definitely not being hired because he felt she was too old to keep up. He asked myself and the other lady how did we feel about the applicants and we explained to him that we thought two of them would have been great and the older woman was the one that we liked.
