Agricultural Activities and Industrialization has affected many of the natural resources that we depend on to survive. 99% of our food comes from the soil that we use and it is calculated that 1% comes from the sea. The world’s crops production is grown on 1.04% of the earth surface but due to the constant urbanization and industrialization increase the percentage of land used for crop production is decreasing. Our planet is covered by 79.9% water and 29.1 % land. 18.53% is unsustainable soil, leaving 10.57% as arable soil. In these 10.57 % things like urbanization is taking place so the percent amount for crop production is believed to be even a smaller. A meager 1.04% is used for permanent crops (www#1). In addition things like urbanization, industrialization, and more recently agricultural practices are the main causes to the recent decline of arable soil.
As of today 7 billion people infest our planet, so the constant urbanization is needed to support this amount of people. Unfortunately the urbanization practices being used are not productive towards producing more arable soil. Urbanization is taking place on the very soil that provides our crops. No regard for the soil is being emphasized, thus we are causing our own future food shortage. The soil needs to be able to recycle itself and the buildings that are being built on top of it are preventing this from happening. Since soil compaction is needed in order to create arable soil things like industrialization, urbanization and buildings prevent the soil that they are built on to complete this process (www.#2).

Corporate greed now controls the means of production. Things like pesticides and genetically engineered seeds are being thrown into the soil. This in turn has a devastating effect on the soil in addition...
