Dolphin Behaviors 1 Animal Behaviors: Dolphins _ Cyanne Tracy_ _ Axia College of University of Phoenix_ Dolphin Behaviors 2 Some scientists say that dolphins call each other by names through whistles. That would mean that they are the only other animal, other than humans, to do this. That right there would prove that the dolphin is a very smart animal. They are able to recognize a signature sound that is their name supposedly given at birth by their mother, and they are able to recognize it no matter who is calling it. Dolphins are very intelligent and have almost the same size brain as humans at birth, and by the time they reach adult stage their brain is about the same size as our adult brains too, about seventeen grams. A 17 year-old and an eight year-old dolphin have the exact same size brain and at the age of 10 the dolphins’ brain is the size of an average adult brain. Everyone thinks that the chimp has the closest mind density as humans, but in all reality the chimps’ brain only weights .75 lbs. The human brain weighs 3.1 lbs and the dolphins’ brain weighs 3.5 lbs which is a little heavier than ours. But the average dolphin is about 8ft long or more, so they need a little bit bigger brain. With that said it is proven that they may be intelligent enough to communicate. One man once said that the reason dolphins always seem to be smiling is because they already know our language, and are patiently waiting for us to learn theirs. The language that we are referring to here is the Mazateco language in Mexico. This language is just people communicating with a series of whistles. If dolphins could learn how to communicate with us in this way it would at least be worth the shot because then we would be communicating with them in some way and helping them to understand us better as well. I think that is amazing that experts are even thinking about trying to communicate with dolphins through an actual language. If we were able to communicate with dolphins...
