“The Most Interesting Man in the World”
Advertisements have been around for numerous years. The main purpose they serve is to lure people in, and to make them want to purchase that particular product. Whether the advertisement is a poster, television commercial, or radio announcement, they all share the same purpose of selling the product. In the majority of commercials, there is always an exaggeration of the product being used and a description of how great the experience was. Every company wants to get across to the public that their product is the most excellent and you could be missing out if you are not their customer.
Getting this idea of being the superior product is usually achieved by having a smooth talking representative for the product of consumption. This spokesperson entices the audience to believe that if they are a consumer for the product they will end up in a positive situation such as being wealthy, happy or successful because of the incredible traits of the item. Usually the spokesperson that is portrayed in the commercial is an attractive and successful person. This is because society would much rather be listening to advice from a beautiful person than a “plain jane” or someone with a dull attitude. Many times, commercials with appealing people and jokes make me remember that product when I am at the store shopping. Overly cheerful and happy personalities make more of an impact on people because our emotions play a chief factor in decision making. Male commercials tend to be to the point, whereas female commercials are overly informative. Often times, males are seen in commercials for items targeted at the male audience such as power tools, sports gear, deodorant, and of course alcoholic beverages such as beer.
