‘Dougy’ written by James Maloney deals with a range of issues facing aboriginal society of past and present years but the three issues im focusing on racism, stereotyping and prejudice
‘Dougy’ written by James Maloney deals with a range of issues facing aboriginal society of past and present years my first point is that there was stereotying demonstrated in the book was like when the family went to Brisbane and the taxi driver demanded money before they got in because they were aboriginal and because they were aboriginal the taxi driver thought they wouldn’t pay because of there colour another example of stereotyping is when the family went to stay at the hotel the family didn’t think that blacks could be in charge of anything.
Examples of racism shown in the book was like when gracey was offered to race in Queensland, at the bus stop the whites had a problem with it as they stated that the blacks get everything for example when Raymond and Dougy went to the rugby ground the security guard kicked them out because they were black. A Gracey was at the race the girl Tanya who was being racist to Gracey by saying that gracey “runs round the bush all day and chases goannas for lunch”.
Examples of prejudice in the book were like when gracey was offered a boarding scholarship which the people in the towns attitude was very negative towards gracey by both the blacks and the whites and also when graceys mum was organising the goodbye party for gracey, miss England was very against it but gave in after a while of making very racist comments.
In conclusion we can see many examples of predudice, racism and stereotysm in the book.
