“How does Racial and Ethnic Groups define prejudice? Do you agree with this definition? Why or why not?”

“Racial and Ethnic Groups” defines “prejudice” as having negative feelings or attitudes toward an entire group or race of people. Prejudices are everywhere, the internet, media and even within each house, in how we are raised. I do I agree with this definition, prejudice is an ugly thing that shows its head everywhere. I see it all the time, in many different forms. Each one leading to some sort of consequence, some leading to suicide and some also leading to crime. I live in a city where we have a lot of homeless people, there is a big current of prejudice against them. I hear people saying all of the time things like, “why don’t they get a job”, “they’re only begging for drugs”, “why don’t they stay in their homeless shelter” and the list can go on and on. There is no reason to think ill of anybody in anyway. Each of us are a vital and unique part of this American culture, we all have a particular role to play no matter what race or group we are from.
When we see all this hate all around us, we should be driven to change it. My children don’t need to be seeing this. I need to be teaching them to reach out and help those in need or getting to know another people. The word prejudice should never be in our vocabulary. Since we are all human beings, we need to treat each other as such and not let others change our minds.
