If I could go to any country in the world I would go to Italy. Italy is located in Southern Europe. The Capital of Italy is Rome. Italy is bordered by four countries; France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia. It is also bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. Italy has a generally mild Mediterranean climate and cold northern winters.
In Italy the official language is Italian. The nationality of most people in Italy is Italian. The population as of July 2007 is 58.15 million. The major ethnic group of Italy is Italian but there are some ethnic groups of; French, Slovene, German, Greek Italians, and Albanian Italians in the South. The major religion of Italy is Roman Catholic.
Italy’s main natural resources are fish and natural gas. Some of their agricultural products are; wheat, rice, citrus fruits, potatoes, and dairy products. Italy’s industry includes; tourism, machinery, iron and steel, chemicals, food processing, textiles, motor vehicles, clothing, footwear, and ceramics. Italy exports $474.8 billion worth of free on board mechanical products, textiles and apparel, transportation equipment, metal products, chemical products, and food and agriculture products. Italy imports $483.6 billion worth of free on board machinery and transport equipment, foodstuffs, ferrous and nonferrous metals, wool, cotton, and energy products.
Italy’s government is a Republican government. Their constitution was established on January 1, 1948. Italy has 3 branches of government; the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial. The executive branch includes the President, the Prime Minister, and the council of ministers, headed by the prime minister. The president of Italy is Giorgio Napolitano and the Prime Minister is Romano Prodi. Italy also has an ambassador to the United States named Giovanni Castellaneta.
