Attempting to get across the same message, these two genres use two different discourse communities, only limiting themselves to their genre and what it can depict within their limitations. The website, NINDS Dyslexia Information Page, focuses mainly on cold hard facts. The website’s main purpose is to inform the general public on the basics of Dyslexia as accurate as possible, with a professional yet simplified dialogue. The website tries to make people feel confident with their information by letting the reader know that they are members of the National Institute of Health, also by putting links f contributors like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources. The website as well shows the link to USA.gov, which implies to the reader that they are part of government programs, and/or are backed up by the government. Presenting facts it’s the websites main purpose, however, it limits the information it gives, nevertheless giving you links to a live agent or other related websites where you might be able to get more information. In the case of the poster, the purpose is the similar to the purpose of the website. The poster The Gift of Dyslexia’s main purpose is to inform as well, but its discourse community changes to a marketing community. This is because the poster serves two purposes, one to inform the reader on Dyslexia and two, persuading you to buy the book. The poster achieves credibilityby having interesting claims on the front cover of the book. It uses words like “[r]evolutionary”, appealing to people that akin to modern matters. Also, just by the fact that it’s a published book and that there are posters of it make it more appealing to readers. Both of these genres purpose is basically the same, however, they both serve their own purpose by building credibility by using to heir advantage their discourse community and by posing evidence while creating an emotional response with the audience.
