On the National Rife Acosciation’s web site, there are 161 records of citizens using a firearm to prevent or stop a crime. This post was taken from the NRA’s website protecting the right to own a firearm. Every night you watch the news, you hear about a crime commited with a gun. Last night in indinapolis a Toys R Us was robbed at gunpoint, the robber only got 300 dollars. The public wants gun control, when a majority of gun owners use firearms legally. Why should we punish good citizens? There are many laws trying to keep guns out of criminal hands, but its not working. We still see violence with guns everyday on the news and sometimes in our lives. We need to find a way to stop crime with guns, while still upholding the rights of law abiding citizens. The United States Constitution gives the right to any individual to bear arms. The second amendment gives the right to a militia to bear arms. Federal judges have declared that the second amendment gives this right to any citizen in the states to own and carry firearms. There are many laws in affect controlling firearms in the United States. (Second Amendment) Should we have stronger gun control or should we keep our current laws? According to gunsafe.org, there are over 235,000,000 firearms in the United States. There are 1,100 accidental firearm deaths in the United States, with 401 involving 15-24 year olds. There are 17 accidental deaths per year involving 0-5 year olds. There are only 18 suicides by firearms per year.
