Education and Polics

“American public education has historically been considered a great success” (Ginsberg, R. 2008.) Education is inherently an ethical and political act. It ultimately involves personal choices about both the common good and our own place in the struggles toward a society based on choices. No matter how hard others may try to purge the ethical and the political from the way we think and act as teachers, those educators committed to the continuing attempt to build a more democratic and caring set of economic, political, and cultural institution know that, as educators, we must choose and we must act. Politics has a major impact on education. Education depends on our government to make decisions that can change the way education is taught and perceived and hopefully remain stable. Education fairness depends on the government while education standard depends on the school. We should insist in opposing any political interference in education.
As educators, we have to be fully aware of the politics that are included in education. We must provide each child to quality education and treat each student with respect and be judge free. A lot of the politics with education deal with IDEA and NCLB. Each of these acts are very important and teachers all over the country should know about each act. “The NCLB is the vehicle for policy ideas that encompass all K-12 schooling using standards developed through collaboration between federal, state, and local educational authorities. The accountability regime has superseded the equity regime. In the process, public opinion clamored for reform, the Republican Party modified its long standing emphasis on a decentralized federalism in K-12 education; the Democrats went beyond a focus on equity; and the federal role dramatically increased” (Ramsay, C.2007.)
