Emotionally Focused Couples
When a couple makes the decision to enter into a marriage, they look forward to their new lives together. Couples entering marriage imagine a life filled with love, happiness, financial stability, emotion support, and intimacy. However, for some couples that image does not turn into reality. If you marry an individual who has an unstable background, their background is likely to cause problems within the marital relationship. When these problems arise, couples therapy is needed to help the couple work through their problems. Couples therapy allows the couple to express any concerns about their relationship and work through them in a healthy manner.
Emotionally focused therapy or EFT is a structured psychotherapy that is used with couples, families and individuals. This style of therapy on the inner emotional state of an individual along with unwanted experiences. The Emotionally Focused Couples video is based on the married couple, Patty and Josh. The couple has been married for about one year. Patty had a previous marriage that caused her tremendous pain and ended in a divorce. Although Patty has remarried, she finds herself reliving the old emotions from her previous relationship. This has caused problems in Patty’s marriage with Josh. When Josh and Patty argue, Patty shuts down. In turn, this causes Josh to feel alone, unwanted and as though Patty is pushing him away. Many married couples go through difficulties and find themselves seeking help to find the source of their problem. Often times the source of the couple’s problem is emotional, and they do not understand how to handle these issues.
