Nowadays English language has become more important than years ago, now we are living in a bilingual country in which is essential speak English to communicate with others.
By the way there are many schools that teach English from preschoolers to teenagers, the difference is that those schools are private and have the resources to develop the language. Public schools are doing the same, creating new programs for little kids.
Some theories say that the only way to learn a new language is to be exposing to it as much as possible.
But it is useful to teach English from kindergarten?
First of all, it has been proved that if children learn a second language when they are in their childhood, they have more possibilities to get a high level of proficiency in it. In addition, if they get a high level of proficiency they will have more opportunities in their future lives (Work opportunities among others).
Those future opportunities could be develop if children are exposed from a young age to the language. The best way for young children to learn a new language is through exposure to the language by any mean, it could be from input from a teacher, by television, by songs, etc. Input is the best way for children to learn English or any language as they listen to it constantly and have English classes every day of the week not just one or two hours a day.
Most of the parents and also teachers may think that it’s impossible for a child that cannot read, learn a new language in kindergarten, but as the ideas mention before a child can learn if he/she receives a lot of input.
We as teachers can do simple things like speak to them in English with simple words at the beginning to teach them how to say and ask for names, how to ask for permission to go to the toilet, to name colours or simple things.
