Enough Already

Every year, it's the same. Every winter, many lives are exciting and miserable at the exact same time. Every December, when the Christmas season rolls around, the atmosphere is bursting with cheer. Every Christmas, the joyous holiday spirit seems to go to the heads of many people. Sometimes, I think some obsess with a little too much holiday spirit, energy, and cheer. Money is wasted -- time vanishes -- trees are demolished -- holiday spirit diminishes -- and someone is always left out. Despite the downfalls, long lost connections are made within families. Although it is exciting to finally get in contact with distant relatives, some families go overboard when it comes to mailing Christmas cards. The annual tradition of sending Christmas cards should be limited to 30 cards per household.

It could be argued that limiting the amount of Christmas cards in which each Christian family is allowed to send would break the hearts of many loved ones. Those who would normally receive cards may feel as though their relationships with friends have been used, mislead, or ended. Some might think that their family is being cut off from others to whom they once felt close to. Relatives could think that their family members have developed a disease or passed on. Many may believe that the mail service lost the cards or failed to deliver them. Because of the concern for family and friend relations, many will be more apt to get in touch with those from whom they did not receive a Christmas card. Just because cards would be limited doesn't mean that there is not way to communicate.

Although sending less Christmas cards could cause sadness, it doesn't mean that communication couldn't be done in another way. Withholding from sending Christmas cards to everyone could actually create more communication. Families would be forced to send e-mails or make telephone calls instead of sending annual family news letters in Christmas cards. Vacations could...
