Environment Effects Due to Israel-Palestine Conflicts

This essay does not deal with humanitarian side of this conflict such as deaths and injuries, refugee’s streams and the short and long term effects of land mines. Instead this paper primarily deals with the direct and induced effects of Israeli aggression on Gaza strip from very beginning of New Year 2009, on the natural and non-human environment.
I would like to start my essay with Former United States Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, quote: “As we move into the 21st century, the nexus between security and the environment will become even more apparent.”
The Gaza Strip is a coastal strip of land along the Mediterranean Sea with temperate climate which vulnerable to drought. The effects of Israel –hamas conflict or fight can be easily mark up.
Including immediate effects , there will be destruction of natural habitat both for animal and plants. This kind of effect can be seen in congo where fight between congo army and rebellion is causing severe damage to Gorrilla population .
Land degradation is the term which have far most dangerous impacts on all life form of the area . Military movements and weapon application result in land degradation. The destruction of military and industrial machinery releases heavy metals and other harmful substances.
The application of weapons, the destruction of structures and oil fields, fires, military transport movements and chemical spraying are all examples of the destroying impact war may have on the environment. Air, water and soil are polluted, man and animal are killed, and numerous health affects occur among those still living.

• COMBAT DESERTIFICATION.
• WASTEWATER:
This is a major issue in almost all cities and villages in Palestine. Treatment and reuse of wastewater is a first priority.
