First I wanted to say that I have enjoyed working with you throughout this process. After reviewing your request and the information that was provided, I felt that a many-to-many relationship design would be best suited for your organization. With a many-to-many relationship design your employees will be able to be scheduled in different departments, not just the same department every single day. With many of your employees being cross-trained in other departments I feel that this is the best design for your organization. I still feel that you will be happy with this design.
As I stated before, from a management perspective this will actually save money. This will save money because it will reduce the amount of staff that is scheduled at one time since many of them are cross-trained to work in other departments. You will always have someone available to cover the department. The employee just may not be “scheduled” to work in that department but since they are trained to work in it they are expected to cover the necessary requests or demands of said department. The many-to-many design will show you which employees are trained in which departments. This will make it easier for you to know which employees are best suited to be scheduled together. The design will also show you each individual’s credentials.
I feel that this is the best design suited for your organization – Taylor Ambulance. Please look over the sample database that I have created.
