You Be the Author!
It’s finally time for the end-of-year gifted project! Can you believe how fast the year went? As with every year we have been working towards a common goal. Think back to yourself, what is one thing that we’d done a lot as the school year progressed? It’s writing, of course! This year we will be writing and publishing our own books. These are not the books that you’ve found in our classroom library or our whole-class books we’ve already published. These books will be original, one-of-a-kind books created entirely by you!

Our class has been busy reading short text pieces throughout the past 3 months for the purpose of summarizing, determining the main idea, identifying spectacular and stupendous words that the author uses to expand meaning, and discovering themes that will help us in our journey in becoming authors. Over the next few months, we will learn about the art of essay writing and how it gives the author a distinctive voice. We will perfect our use of writing types (expository, narrative, and persuasive) in hopes of connecting with our audience. We will talk about what interests us as readers and how we can use that in our writing. By the end of our unit, we will have published our individual collections and will invite our families to come to our book release party!

Books and supplies for every student have been ordered and purchased in advance. I ask that you cover only the cost of the book and I will keep a supply of materials in class for daily use. Listed below is the cost of the book (cash only please) and the supplies that we currently have on hand. If you would like to purchase or donate additional supplies listed below, we would be very grateful! Thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing our work with you in May!
