Independent Reading Essay

The book Drama High, Courtin’ Jayd is about a girl named Jayd trying to juggle school, family, and friends. Jayd struggled with school subjects, family relationships, and on how to maintain friendship among her peers. Jayd isn’t your typical teenager. Her life is controlled by drama Jayd was always into some kind of mishap. The drama seems to never end at South Bay high school where Jayd attended. Not only did Jayd have problems at school, but at home as well. High school and her relationship problems are standing in her way of living a happy productive life. Drama at her house with her grandparents fighting and the drama at school with her two best friends, and the drama with her two ex-boyfriends, that’s trying to get back with her. Sometimes she had a hard time overcoming these obstacles. Through this journey Jayd slowly finds her inner strength, to rise above it all. She finally finds closure and beats the odds.
I really enjoyed reading this book because of the simple fact that I can relate to it. I feel that every young person has gone through what Jayd has went through. Reading this book made me realize that karma is real. People can do something so conniving to someone, but at the end of the day it will come back to you, and slap you in the face hard. I picked strawberries as my food to go along with this book. I chose strawberries because even though Jayd went through so much, she always remained sweet to others.
