Unit 4 Reflection Paper

After reading the section regarding Ethical Decisions I have a clearer insight into the meaning of morals and values as well as the process that is involved in the decision making process. Of all the decisions both major and minor that I have made in my lifetime, I have never taken the time to focus on just how much detail, information, and effort it actually takes to make a decision. After reading this section I discovered that there are a multitude of steps and/or approaches that are involved the process of making ethical decisions.
When I was a little girl my parents always told me that making good decisions would take me a long way in life. They also went out of their way to teach me the difference between right and wrong. My grandfather was a minister, therefore he was always giving me instructions on morality and the value of being a person of good character. Since I tend to be a very emotional person I often times think with my heart and make decisions the same way. After reading this section I realize that I need to take my time and think things through. I also learned that I need to follow the steps that are outlined in this section before I make decisions especially important decisions.
This section gives so many different approaches that can be used to make decisions that I never even knew existed. It has really opened my eyes to the many different ways that many people use to make both ethical and moral decisions. My mother used to always ask me what my gut was telling me to do when I was attempting to make a decision. She used to say that you should go with your first instinct which is usually the best instinct to used when solving a problem. I have learned that this may not always be true but it is an important part in making a decision. I do know that after reading this section I will never take the act of decision making lightly again.
