Introduction
The dire need to encourage a system of conducting and regulating academic activities as a way of maintaining high level professionalism with the ivory towers cannot be emphasised, thus suggesting this week’s topic; ethics in an academic environment. This Paper on the issues relating to ethics in an academic environment attempts to present the reason why academic ethics is inevitable, examine some ethical academic standards and identify certain unethical practises that are avoided in the academics.
According to DeJanasz, Dowd &Schneider (2001), the word ethics comes from the Greek word ethos, which means a notion of character permeated with values that determine the identity and good or bad of an individual or group. Ethics are understood are predefined ways of conducting one’s self within a particular domain or circle. I understand Academic ethics as standard ways of addressing academic issues, which ensures parity and professionalism.
Ethics is pertinent to the academics, because one the purpose of any academic institution is to impact ethics into students irrespective of the field. It should therefore be normal to practise what is being preached.

Why do we need academic ethics?
Student-Teacher relations: Academic ethics generally helps the control of gestures and relationships between teachers and students. In most academic institutions, ethics helps all participants develop a very strong sense of belonging, thus promoting general tranquillity.
Positive Attitudes: By engaging in the right practices regularly, a student tends to build the prerequisite for enduring academics success. The Ethical practises encouraged within the academics help ensure integrity, transparency and good and unbiased evaluation of academic performances.
