Introduction:
Etisalat is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world and the leading operator in the Middle East and Africa, headquartered in the UAE. It operates in 18 countries across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, servicing over 100m customers out of a total population of approximately 1.9bn people. Etisalat began as a communication company ,it was created on 30th August 1976. It provided telecommunications service between the seven emirates in the UAE. When it started it was partly owned by Aeradio Limited, a British Company, and local partners. The UAE government then took over 60% of its shares and gave 40% to the public in 1983. This combination allowed the organization to move toward other modern companies. Etisalat became an international corporation in 1991 when a law was issued which gave the corporation the right to provide the telecommunication wire and wireless services in the country and between U.A.E and other countries (Etisalat, 2014).
As a comprehensive telecommunications provider, it offers mobile, fixed line, voice, and data services to business and individuals all over the U.A.E. It also offers a variety of hi-tech complimentary services to the telecommunications industry including managerial and technical training, SIM card manufacturing, payment solutions, clearing house services, peering, voice and data transit, and submarine and land cable services.
Etisalat is the largest carrier of international voice traffic in the Middle East and Africa and the 12th largest voice carrier in the world. It is the largest comprehensive provider of carrier and wholesale services in the region with Points of Presence (PoP) in New York, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Singapore providing a truly global reach. It has 525 roaming agreements connecting 185 countries enabling BlackBerry, 3G and voice roaming (Etisalat, 2014).
