America has many problems this day in age, and two of the biggest problems are the limited supply of fossil fuels and the hazardous pollutants released into our atmosphere. Although, many different companies create different ways to use less fuel and produce less pollutants the most effective route is the usage of electric cars. The electric cars commonly known as “EVs” were once science fiction but in the late 90s a few major car companies created the first prototypes and only leased them to the Californian public. A few years later the cars were recalled for “unknown” reason and were doomed to the crusher. The cars required very little maintenance, operated on electricity alone, produced no pollutants, and by using domestically-generated electricity there is no need for foreign oil. With all of these advantages why did the electrics car disappear? THE electric car has been in the auto industry since the beginning of automobiles themselves, and was quite popular, but the car did not take precedence until the mid 90’s. As quickly as they came into view they were stripped away from their proud owners. The electric car was quietly swept under the rug and destroyed with almost no ability for the, now, ex-owners to fight back. The question is asked, who killed the electric car? Was it the auto industry, was it the government, or was it the oil industries? There are many factors that led to the death of the car, and this film did a really good job at exploring those reasons. THE rising air problems of California became rather evident in the 90’s, and I would agree that there would need to be some sort of forward progress to progressively clean the air and then keep it clean.
