Evolutiuonary education Evolution taught in schools remains a controversial topic to say the least. It has over the years grown increasingly more popular in all schools over the nation. The Scopes v.State trial in 1925 really set the controversy off. John Thomas Scopes taught the theory of evolution even though it directly disobeyed the law in which only creationism was allowed to be taught. Through heated debate the court sided with scopes giving teachers the right to openly teach evolution to their students. Science seems to always prevail. Textbooks scarcely mentioned anything about evolution thorughthe 1960’s. Those that discussed it often omitted it from their index. Through the years the teaching of creationism has become on the brink of extinction in Public schools. It wasn’t until 1981 that Louisiana passed its “creationism act” where the schools were given the preference to discriminate people who were against the idea of creationism. Ultimately it landed in the hands of the supreme courtwho declared the act unconstitutional violating the first amendment. The Darwinian philosophy continues to be favored by the united stateslegal system. Creationismfollowers have to consider evolution as a possible answer to the life on earth. Or will they still disagree with the judges appointed to make the most fair and logical decisions for the country? The controversy continues through more recent times. In 2005 Dover, Pennsylvania the school board thought it fit to require all teachers to read a statement about intelligent design before teaching any knowledge about evolution. In effect many parents rebelled accusing it of violating the Establishment Clause. After a month and a half of trial Judge John E. Jones ruled this decision by the school board unconstitutional.
